Now, most folks would go in there, all ready to squish ’em, but lemme tell ya something—don’t even bother with ‘em. Those rats, they ain’t worth the trouble. You’re better off just passin’ ’em by. Ignore ‘em, don’t speak to ‘em, don’t even look at ‘em, and you’ll save yourself a whole mess of problems.

Now, while you’re down in that dungeon, there’s something else you gotta keep in mind. You’ll run into a big ol’ Umbral Portal sittin’ in the middle of the room. And trust me, you don’t wanna leave that thing unchecked. It’ll just keep spittin’ out Dark Justiciars and more portals, and before ya know it, you’ll be surrounded. So, what ya need to do is take care of that big portal first, before it gets worse. If you don’t, you’re gonna find yourself in a world of hurt.

Once you’ve done that, and cleared out all the pesky portals, you’ll find yourself face to face with Balthazar, the necromancer. Now, this one’s a tricky fella. He’s not just gonna stand there and let you waltz up to him. He’s got all sorts of dark magic up his sleeve, so you better be prepared. Don’t rush in all willy-nilly, take your time and make sure you got a plan. You’ll need to keep your wits about ya, or you’ll end up just another victim of his vile spells.

Another thing to think about while you’re down in that Gauntlet—there’s a choice that’s gonna come up later on, and it’s one you gotta be real careful with. You’re gonna have to decide whether you wanna side with Yurgir or Raphael. Now, I ain’t gonna tell you which way to go, but I’ll tell ya this much: your actions earlier, like not killin’ the rats or messin’ with the portals, can help you out when it comes time to make that decision. So, think long and hard about how you handle things, because it’ll matter down the road.

One other thing, don’t go in there thinkin’ it’s all about the loot. Sure, you might find some shiny stuff along the way, but don’t go gettin’ all greedy. The experience and the choices you make are more important than whatever trinkets you might pick up. If you keep your head straight, you’ll come outta there with more than just gold—you’ll come out with a better understanding of how to handle the nasties in this world. And trust me, you’ll need it.

So there ya go. That’s what I learned from my time in that Gauntlet of Shar. If you’re smart and careful, you’ll come through it just fine. Just don’t go rushin’ in without thinkin’ things through.
